Red, White and Black: This Week’s Koi Release

Red, white and black are at the heart of some of the most recognisable koi varieties. Red (beni) draws the eye; clean white (shiroji) gives the pattern space and contrast; and black (sumi) brings depth and definition. How those three colours sit together can make two koi of the same variety look completely different.

They’ve inspired the theme for this week’s online release. We’ve started harvesting and cataloguing, and we’ll be adding more koi over the next two days. This page will grow as the selection takes shape, so keep an eye on the blog and our social channels for updates.

The new koi will be released online on Friday at 8 pm. They’ll be available on a first-come, first-served basis; we cannot reserve koi before the release.

First harvest: 15 Sekiguchi jumbo tosai Showa

We began with a pond of jumbo tosai Showa from Sekiguchi and hand-picked 15 examples to kick off this week’s harvest. Showa bring all three colours together, with each fish offering its own balance of red, white and black. They’re a fitting starting point for the theme.

The three short previews below give you a closer look at the first group. We’ll share the individual koi details in the release catalogue later this week.
