Below is a guide and analysis of top picks from the koi going live tonight.

Ex Brood Fish

1. Ginrin Showa (Ex-Brood Male)

A powerful and well-structured Showa showing deep, lacquer-black sumi over strong beni (red) and clean white ground. The ginrin is strong and lifts the entire pattern. The black wraps attractively around the body, emphasising a robust frame, while motoguro in the fins remains strong and even. A proven breeder male, originally from Yagengi, and a great example that exemplifies the depth and balance expected from quality ginrin Showa lines.

2. Ginrin Goshiki (Ex-Brood Male)

I purchased this from Ikarashi Ozumi on my Feb 2023 trip as a high quality sansai male. The rich red plates sit over a shimmering base of blue and grey robing, producing that classic, multi-dimensional floating beni Goshiki effect. The Ginrin sparkle enhances every movement, adding elegance and brilliance. A fine example of this increasingly popular variety, showcasing excellent pigment strength and balance.

Koi Shop Tank Clearance

1. Tancho

A stunning Tancho female from Marujyu with a clean white body with excellent fukurin giving the skin a textured look, and a perfectly centred red circle on the head. The hi is even and strong, with superb contrast against the bright shiroji. Excellent body shape and symmetry. A truly graceful example of this iconic variety — now available at clearance pricing.

2. Showa

Classic Showa from Marujyu featuring deep, lacquer-black sumi wrapping beautifully around bold red and white patterning. The colour balance is impressive, with defined motoguro in the fins adding power to its presentation. A confident koi with great structure and presence.

3. Showa

Another excellent Showa from Marujyu, this one displaying a dramatic interplay of colour and contrast. The black pattern dominates confidently, accentuating the vibrant hi and crisp shiroji. A fish with both impact and refinement — full of potential as it continues to mature.

4. Ginrin Kujaku

An elegant Ginrin Kujaku showing superb metallic lustre. The vivid orange-red markings with ginrin and over a bright platinum base create a luminous effect under light. The pattern is balanced, refined, and glowing — an excellent example of this standout variety.

5. Gin Shiro Utsuri

A striking Gin Shiro Utsuri showing crisp black sumi contrasted against a bright, metallic white ground. The sumi is evenly distributed and consistent, while the skin shows superb sheen and condition — with an attractive pattern of offset bands of sumi.

6. Gin Shiro Utsuri

Another exceptional Gin Shiro, this fish presents a slightly more open and developing pattern with excellent promise. A koi with refined elegance and great future potential, ideal for those seeking balanced monochrome beauty.

7. Beni Kikokuryu

The reflective skin gives this koi dramatic contrast and changing tones depending on the light. The broad head and body give this koi presence, and the clean pattern edges and sharp definition elevate it into a wonderful pond feature koi.

8. Beni Kikokuryu

Another superb Beni Kikokuryu, featuring an intense metallic finish and rich beni (red) plate.  High contrast between the colours makes this koi stand out in the pond.

9. Shiro Utsuri

Both Shiro's are from my visit to Kaneko in February and both have bright white skin and open 'kindai' style patterns .  Sumi is coming through and promises to develop resulting in elegant koi.  Both also have a strong body frame  — and a smart buy at clearance price.
