Suda Butterfly Koi Join Our Japanese Tosai in the Koi Shop
Earlier this week we introduced our first butterfly koi of the season from Yamasan Koi Farm. Today we’ve continued moving fish through from quarantine, with the focus shifting to another respected long-fin breeder — Suda Koi Farm.
Butterfly Koi – Back by Popular Demand
Butterfly koi were a new addition to our koi shop last year.
To be honest, we weren’t entirely sure how they would be received by our customers — but the response surprised us. Many of you discovered that these elegant long-fin koi add something genuinely different to a pond, and they quickly became a popular choice.
Of course, butterfly koi aren’t for everyone. Some pond keepers prefer the traditional body shape of classic Nishikigoi — and that’s absolutely fine. At Byer Koi Farm we’re here for everyone who enjoys keeping koi, whether that’s traditional varieties or the flowing fins of butterfly koi.
Because of the strong interest last season, we made sure to include them again in our selections for the 2026 season.
Two Leading Japanese Butterfly Breeders
This year we’ve expanded our butterfly selection slightly.
As well as our usual fish from Yamasan Koi Farm, we’ve also selected butterfly koi from another long-established Japanese breeder — Suda Koi Farm.
Suda are well known in Japan for producing high quality long-fin koi, and their range of varieties complements the Yamasan fish very nicely. Between the two farms we now have a broader mix of colours and patterns available for customers this year.
We’re very confident that butterfly koi enthusiasts will be extremely happy when they see the selection we have for the new season.
Now Moving Into the Sales Systems
All of these fish have now completed quarantine and are being moved into our sales systems.
Over the course of this week we’re continuing to introduce different groups of koi into the shop — including:
-
Japanese tosai
-
Butterfly koi
-
Baby koi mixes
By the time we open again this weekend, customers visiting the farm will be able to view and select from the new season’s stock.
Visiting This Weekend
From this weekend onwards, visitors to the farm will be able to come and view the new arrivals and pick their own koi directly from the tanks. See the visit us page for our location and hours.
For those who prefer to purchase online, the new small koi mixes will also be listed on the website on Friday evening, allowing customers across the UK to order for delivery.
