Japanese Tosai, Butterfly Koi & Baby Koi Arriving for Spring 2026 – Byer Koi Farm UK
As water temperatures begin to lift across the UK and daylight stretches further into the evenings, the 2026 koi season is beginning to take shape here at Byer Koi Farm.
Last weekend we saw the first real surge of early-season visitors, with customers specifically looking for Japanese tosai koi, butterfly koi and baby koi for their ponds. On Saturday we were back-to-back throughout the day — a sure sign that spring thinking has started.
And now, the first tranche of new season koi has arrived into the sales room.
Butterfly Koi from Yamasan & Baby Koi from Maruhiro
Today we have introduced:
-
Elegant Butterfly Koi (Longfin Koi) from Yamasan Koi Farm
-
A beautiful selection of 3–5 inch Baby Koi from Maruhiro Koi Farm
Both breeders are based in Niigata, Japan — the heartland of Japanese koi production — and are well known for producing strong young koi with excellent growth potential.
Butterfly Koi for Sale – UK Spring Selection

Butterfly koi in motion — new arrivals at Byer Koi Farm
Our new Yamasan butterfly koi offer:
-
A wide range of varieties
-
Graceful, long flowing fins
-
Strong early development potential
-
Ideal options for customers seeking quality longfin koi for sale in the UK
Butterfly koi continue to grow in popularity, and you will find a particularly wide range here at Byer Koi Farm to choose from this spring.
3–5 Inch Baby Koi – Perfect for Growing On

We were especially pleased to secure the Maruhiro baby koi this spring.

Our own BKF bred 3–5 inch koi are now essentially sold out. We do produce a healthy volume each year, but numbers are always limited to what we have bred ourselves — and demand has been consistently strong since last autumn.
These new Japanese baby koi ensure that customers who enjoy introducing smaller fish into their ponds still have access to quality young stock at the start of the season.
For many koi keepers, buying 3–5 inch koi in spring and growing them on through the warmer months is one of the most rewarding parts of the hobby.
Japanese Tosai – Fully Quarantined & Moving Through
Alongside the butterfly and baby koi, we are also moving our fully quarantined Japanese tosai into the main sales systems.
As an established UK koi specialist, all imported Japanese koi complete structured and extensive quarantine protocols before being acclimatised for their move into the sales room. This work was completed over the winter, allowing us to introduce the new season tosai in stages as spring approaches.
Additional batches of tosai will move through daily this week, building into one of our strongest early-season selections.
Alongside the mixes, we have also secured a number of higher quality Japanese tosai which will be offered individually later in the spring, once fully prepared and photographed. These selected koi will be listed on our koi for sale page as the season develops.
A Larger Than Normal Spring Range
One key point for customers planning a visit:
We are carrying a larger volume of koi than normal for early spring 2026.
This means:
-
A wide range of Japanese tosai
-
Strong butterfly koi availability
-
Continued baby koi options
-
Depth across multiple size brackets
If you can’t visit in March, there is no need to rush or worry. We have structured stock carefully to ensure strong availability throughout the first half of the koi season.
Fresh tranches will continue moving into the sales systems over the coming days and weeks.
These new butterfly koi and 3–5 inch baby koi mixes will be added to our small koi and tosai mixes section at the end of the week as part of our coordinated spring release.
Find them on the website here: https://www.byerkoifarm.co.uk/collections/small-koi
BKF Bred Tosai – Following Soon
Our own BKF bred tosai are just a few weeks behind the Japanese arrivals and will be introduced in stages once ready.
Koi Fry & 2-3 Inch Mixes
As usual, our popular koi fry and 2–3 inch koi mixes will follow later in the summer, after this year’s spawning cycle.
You can read more about this year’s breeding plans and upcoming fry in our 2026 Koi Fry Preview blog.
Early Season Buying – Is It Too Soon?
While pond temperatures are still cool across much of the UK, early spring can be an excellent time to secure quality koi — particularly if you have:
-
Experience introducing koi during early spring
-
The ability to manage temperature equalisation carefully
-
A heated pond system
-
Quarantine facilities
If you are unsure whether conditions are right for your pond, we are always happy to advise before you commit.
Spring 2026 at Byer Koi Farm
This is the stage in our annual cycle when the largest number of new koi move through our systems — always one of the most exciting periods of the year.
For our customers, it means fresh choice, new varieties and strong early-season selection.
For us, it’s the point where months of planning, quarantine and stock movement begin to come together in the sales room.
Temperatures are slowly edging upward. Feeding is increasing. Our sales range is building day by day.
We look forward to welcoming you soon.
