Nisai Koi Harvest 2025 at Byer Koi Farm – Goshiki, Kumonryu, Ochiba & More

We’ve been eagerly anticipating this year’s nisai harvests, and the time has finally arrived! 2024 brought us excellent spawnings, and now we’re beginning to see the results at nisai. This year is especially exciting because we have one pond of koi that I personally hand-selected as tosai in Japan earlier this year. These koi are now ready to be harvested at nisai here at Byer Koi Farm.

Next week, we’ll be turning our attention to some truly special Marudo and Hosokai koi, but this week has been all about the koi we’ve bred and raised ourselves – our very own BKF koi.

This harvest includes:

  • Our first-ever batch of Goshiki
  • A larger than usual range of Kumonryu
  • Stunning Doitsu Ochiba
  • Beautiful Doitsu Metallic Ochiba
  • And some excellent Kikisui

We’ll be listing as many koi as possible from these harvests on our website for online release this Friday at 8pm, as usual.

Meanwhile, we’re also running our third and final round of spawnings. Thanks to some spare pond space, we’re able to produce a little extra this year. At this late stage, it can be challenging to find male and female koi still in spawning condition, but we’ve reviewed several and set off three spawnings this evening (Tuesday 9th September). With luck, these will give us some promising results – and we have a few more females in reserve if needed to make the most of our pond space.

We’ve been sharing sneak peeks of the nisai harvests on social media, but if you haven’t caught those, here are some highlights from the two ponds harvested so far. Enjoy the clips – and keep an eye out for our Friday release!

We're incredibly proud of the high quality we are able to offer at nisai from our own spawnings.  The Kumonryu this year are particularly special, and particularly with the classic linear jagged patterns - each unique, and fascinating.

We also some video snippets from the moment the ponds are harvested:

Keep an eye on our socials through the week, and also for further blog posts on the website as we profile more of the nisai we have harvested and provide preview videos ahead of the online release this Friday night.
