New Release: Yamasan Koi Farm Butterfly Nisai Now Available

Over the winter we brought in a special selection of butterfly koi tosai from Yamasan in Niigata, Japan. From that batch, we decided to hold back a small group to rear through the summer — partly for our own learning, and partly because we wanted to see just how these koi would develop in our care.

Fast forward to today, and we’re thrilled to announce that we’ve successfully grown on 14 butterfly koi to nisai (2 years old). Watching them progress from young tosai to graceful nisai has been an exciting journey, and we can’t wait to share the results with you.

These koi now display:

• Striking size and body shape for their age.

• Beautiful long, flowing fins that make butterfly koi so unique.

• Vibrant colours and stable patterns that have really matured over the season.

We’ll be releasing this group in the shop this weekend. With only 14 available, each one is truly a one-off opportunity. Once they’re gone, they’re gone.

At Byer Koi Farm, these koi will be released when we open at 10am on Saturday 6th September.

This small harvest has been a rewarding step in our journey developing our koi farm business, and we’re excited to pass these fish on to new ponds where they can keep growing and bringing joy.
