Izumiya Sanke Arrive for Bank Holiday Weekend

As we head towards the Bank Holiday weekend, the weather forecast finally looks set to shift in the right direction, with warmer temperatures arriving just as the shop begins filling with new arrivals for the late spring period.

One variety that we’re especially looking forward to showcasing this weekend is Sanke.

Sanke is a variety we’ve never bred ourselves at Byer Koi Farm, so this year we decided to bring in a selection of tosai directly from Izumiya in Japan. Those koi have now completed quarantine successfully, and over the past few days we’ve been adding large numbers of new 15–18cm Izumiya Sanke into the Japanese koi mix tanks in the koi shop.

The overall quality of these Sanke has really impressed us. There’s a lovely balance to them — clean white skin, developing sumi, and the kind of soft, refined beni that gives them plenty of future potential as they grow on.

Alongside the shop additions, we’ll also be running a Friday evening online release featuring a selection of individually catalogued Izumiya Sanke in the mid-20cm range. These are a step up in size and development, and it will be the first time we’ve offered individually photographed Sanke from this particular group online.

It’s a variety we’re excited to spend more time working with, and we’re looking forward to showing them off properly over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Our opening hours this Bank Holiday weekend will be 10am–5pm on all four days — Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

And, as always, keep an eye on our social media channels over the weekend for updates on any special Blue Bowl days… which, given the improving weather forecast, seem fairly likely ;-)
