Happy new year! Welcome to 2023

First post of 2023 , is our new Mukashi Ogon line from the female we call Opaline. These koi are in the final stint before tosai selection and harvest in March. Check out the quality of these Mukashi …. The backbone profile is particularly pleasing, which you can see in this video:

They're just so photogenic, it warranted another video :-)

We are expecting these to perform in a similar way to the Oakly chagoi from last year.  We wrote about these mukashi's recently, here: https://www.byerkoifarm.co.uk/blogs/blog/new-opaline-line-mukashi-ogons

And for a picture of the mum, check out the blog post from around the time we spawned her in summer '22, here: https://www.byerkoifarm.co.uk/blogs/blog/a-week-in-the-life-of-a-koi-farmer-wc-6_5?_pos=3&_sid=e2f60ab82&_ss=r

The showa's on the cover photo are examples of our nisai showa, and available via our koi for sale page here: https://www.byerkoifarm.co.uk/collections/koi-for-sale  The left hand showa appeared in the recent World Of Nishikigoi magazine!

We have so much news to share with you  and I’ll be updating you in due course about how we are dealing with the electricity situation.  That's the main thing really, and we're finding customers are asking about it and that makes sense because with some very strong headwinds affecting all businesses in the UK, particularly ones like ours that are high energy users, it's certainly a tricky time!  We have an innovative approach and plan that we are carrying out.  We are tackling it head on and in short , it means growing our business, changing some of our practices a little to become more efficient. Some of the information I can share now is that we applied for and received planning permission to build 2 more large commercial polytunnels that will roughly double our polytunnel space and give us more summer growing on space.  What this means for our customers is simply that as we grow over the next 2 years, we will not only be larger but also have a wider range of koi too, with even more depth and choice over the varieties we specialise in now. We continue to strive to produce the highest quality koi, based here in the UK; and also deliver great customer service.
