First harvest of 2022

We have completed the first harvest of the year, and preparing for the next two pond harvests which are imminent too.  Whilst also balancing further spawnings - 3 pairs went last night.

The pond harvested contained Kohaku from our new Sakai female, and also some of the Shusui/Doitsu Ochiba mix.  I've not had long to review the output, but first thoughts after looking through a few of them are cautiously positive, across both spawnings.

Most of the Shusui/Doitsu ochiba output is in another pond, which is the 3rd in line for harvesting, so to get a chance to see a sample output last night was pretty good.  Size wise, the average is a bit under what we usually achieve.  But numbers wise is decent which is the main thing.  These will now be grown on within our tosai growing on tanks, and the pond drained, dried and then re-filled to prepare for another set of hatchlings.

We are also on course to start shipping the bulk of the early fry orders next week.

Other news; we have been joined by a work placement student.  Nerissa is in Vet school at University, and chosen us as one of her placements this summer.  Some of you may have seen her working on our stand at the BKKS National Koi Show last weekend, and she's with us for the rest of this week and next week too.

Her timing couldn't have been better...  to take in the National, and also 3 harvests!  The extra help was much appreciated yesterday, as Nerissa and I harvested fry pond 3, freeing up Amanda for customer communications and shipping.
