A Week In The Life Of A Koi Farmer W/C 27/10/25: Have Your Say Questionnaire
I’m flying to Japan this weekend to start an intense buying week where we’ll be stocking up on new brood stock for the varieties we’re breeding here at Byer Koi Farm, and also selecting koi for our shop’s 2026 sales season.
Japan in autumn is always an inspiring time for koi buying — the harvests are in full swing, and it’s a privilege to see the very best from our partner breeders. I’ll be visiting several trusted breeders across Niigata.
This trip, I am joined by Woody from 'Koi In The UK' over on Instagram (Koi_In_The_UK Istagram Page) which I am very excited about. Keep an eye out for some collaborations on social media, and I’ll share photos and updates during the trip.
It’s also the perfect time to ask for your feedback — what koi varieties would you like to add to your collection next year? And how can we improve your experience with Byer Koi Farm?

Amanda will be looking after the farm in my absence, and our shop will be open as usual at the weekends, 10-4pm each weekend day.
Our online koi releases this month have been popular and to complete the set for October we have another online release for you this Friday night at the usual 8pm time. As well as preparing for the online release, much of this week has been spent cleaning filters, clearing our quarantine systems to prepare them for new batches of incoming koi, and talking to customers.

Your feedback and requests will directly shape what we bring back this season, and I can’t wait to see what varieties you’d like us to focus on for the koi shop. Thank you, as always, for your support and enthusiasm — it makes all the difference.
