A Rare and Special Release This Friday (8pm)

We’re preparing something a little different for this Friday’s online release, and it’s a batch I’ve been particularly looking forward to sharing.

There are a few reasons for that.

Firstly, quite simply — they look very good. The overall quality across the group is strong, and they’ve come through well since arriving.

But more than that, they are a type of koi that we don’t see very often. And when they do appear, finding genuinely good examples isn’t always straightforward. These are.

A Cohesive Selection — All Chosen on the Same Day in Japan

Interestingly, every koi in this release was selected on the same day during my last trip to Japan in November.

It wasn’t planned that way — but looking back, it does link these koi together.

If you’d like to revisit that day and see some of the thinking behind the selections, you can read more here:

The Main Feature — A Rare Variety (13 Available)

The centrepiece of this release is a group of 13 koi of a rarer variety.

This isn’t something we’re able to offer regularly, and it’s certainly not a variety where you can easily find depth of quality across multiple fish at once.

That’s part of what makes this group stand out.

Rather than one or two interesting examples, we’ve been able to secure a small collection that holds together well — giving people a genuine choice within the variety, rather than a single opportunity.

They each have their own nuances, but the overall standard is consistent — and that’s what really appealed to me at the point of selection.

Supporting Groups from Koda and Koshiji

Alongside the main group, we’re also including two additional selections that bring a different balance to the release.

Ginrin Kohaku Nisai — from Koda

These are good size nisai with strong beni and good ginrin quality.

Ginrin Kohaku can be a difficult balance to get right — the interaction between the scale sparkle and the underlying pattern needs to work together, rather than compete.

These are good examples of that balance.

Shiro Utsuri — from Koshiji (9 Available)

We’ve also selected nine Shiro Utsuri for this release.

These offer a very different feel — more structural with the wrapping sumi — and they sit nicely alongside the brighter beni (red) and more refined elements elsewhere in the release.

Friday Night Release — 8pm

As always, these koi will be released on the individual premium koi for sale page on the website at 8pm this Friday evening.

We’ll be sharing preview content in the lead-up, so you can take a closer look and be ready on the night if something catches your eye.

In terms of pricing, the Doitsu Goshiki are £295, the Shiro Utsuri are £195, and the Ginrin Kohaku range from £245 to £295.

It’s a release I’ve been looking forward to. Seeing them in the sun today while filming — with the colours and skin quality really showing — was a reminder of why this group stood out at the point of selection.
