A Busy Week: Spawnings & Nisai Harvests

It’s not often that we have a week where we’re both running new spawnings and harvesting nisai at the end of their summer growth period. We're also preparing for the second large online koi release from our nisai harvests this autumn. It’s certainly kept us busy!

Spawnings update:

On the spawning side, we now have fry feeding well from all three spawnings: Doitsu Ochiba, Shusui, and our Beni Kikokuryu female.

The Beni Kikokuryu spawning was particularly small, but the hatch looks promising, so we’re hopeful of achieving a contributing yield. It’s still early days, but by this time next week we’ll have a clearer picture of the potential size of a late season fry harvest around late October or early November.

Nisai harvest update:

Firstly, a big thank you for the incredible response to last week’s nisai release, which drew attention not only from the UK but also from koi enthusiasts around the globe!

This week, we have two planned nisai pond harvests. The first of which are from the Japanese koi I personally selected as tosai during my trip to Niigata back in February.

• Hosokai Selections: The first batch came from Hosokai. You can read more about that day in my Japan trip blog - website blog here.. These koi are predominantly Kujaku, which was my main target, along with some Gin Matsuba and a Kohaku.

• Marudo Selections: The second batch came from Marudo, where I focused entirely on Sanke. Again, you can revisit the selections and read about that day on my trip blog - website blog here.{VIDEO}

These harvested nisai are now being catalogued and will be released online this Friday at 8pm—our usual release time.  It's going to be the usual process, and so expect more blogs between now and the online release, sharing preview videos for all the koi being released.

From 8pm on Friday night, you'll find the new koi listed on our individual koi for sale page.  So you have it to hand - here's a link sorting the - koi for sale - newest koi to the top.  All the koi catalogued this week go live on the website at 8pm.

The other pond of nisai being harvested, and will also contribute to the online release this Friday is a pond of BKF nisai.  These are Shusui, Ki Utsuri and also Karashigoi spawned by us last year and soon to reach two summers old.

You'll also spot the odd hi utsuri in there, and these are from Shinoda which will also form part of the harvest.
