41-46cm Doitsu Kohaku, Doitsu Sanke, Doitsu Showa (Maruhide) REF - OC66
- Byer Koi Farm
Adam's Breeder's Notes: Maruhide is one of the new generation of breeders in Niigata, and specialises in Go Sanke, both Doitsu and wagoi (fully scaled). Already winning awards with his koi at the All Japan Koi Show, we trialled the farm with some tateshita tosai (the best grade a breeder has, that missed the cut for growing space the next season). The tateshita did extremely well, and I was most impressed with the strength of the bodies they generate. Which ties in with where Maruhide learned koi breeding, namely Isa - world famous for showa, who's koi are well known for generating huge volumous bodies.
So at this Autumn Harvest in Japan, we've picked up some Maruhide Doitsu Go Sanke with a view to incorporating some into new breeding sets - combining with Hiroi Doitsu Showa that we already have.
For now, these are all available for sale.
The Doitsu Kohaku's patterns are particularly pleasing! Check out the interlocking 2 step pattern markings on the Doitsu Kohaku ref 5, the three step pattern on ref 6 and the powerful first step pattern marking on ref 2! The sumi quality is excellent on Doitsu Showa ref 1 and the two Doitsu Sanke's are good all round, and large for nisai.
To help you assess the Doitsu Showa from this bowl, you may find our Koi Variety Spotlight on Showa a useful read. It's a 15-20 minute read and takes you through the variety in detail - including buying tips! Our Japanese Autumn Harvest koi need to complete quarantine before they are available for release. However, they can be ordered now, and they remain at our risk until they complete quarantine. Our quarantine is extremely thorough, including two heat ramps and lasting long enough to help the koi acclimatise to UK water. This process takes around two months.
Estimated quarantine completed date: End of December '24
Ordering the koi before quarantine is complete reserves the koi for you. Once the koi have completed quarantine, they can remain here at Byer Koi Farm until the spring, free of charge. In the spring, you’ll likely be eager to bring your koi home. Customer service is key to us, so when you collect your koi, if you prefer to swap for a different koi of equal or greater value, we’re happy to accommodate that. The same applies if you opt for delivery, though we kindly ask that any decisions are made before dispatch. Once a koi leaves Byer Koi Farm, it cannot be returned, to ensure we maintain the biosecurity of the farm.
